Acetic Acid Bacteria is an international Open Access, peer-reviewed journal publishing original research articles, reviews, brief reports and letters to the Editor in the areas of physiology, taxonomy, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, biotechnology and industrial applications of acetic acid bacteria. The journal aims to make significant contributions to basic knowledge as well as to applied field. Within that framework the publication of articles that report novel findings in support of the following subjects: acetic acid bacteria as biocatalysts, interactions with their environments, function as spoiling or intentionally added to foods, nitrogen-fixing activity and emerging roles (pathogenicity, discovery and exploitation of new metabolic activities) is encouraged.

Vertical Specialization and Inclusive Growth in China discusses the two interrelated developments that have transformed the Chinese economy in recent years. First, the global community has increased calls to foster inclusive economic growth, with China embracing this trend. Second, the explosive growth in China’s trade resulting from international vertical specialization production and trade networks which has complicated the notion of inclusive growth in the Chinese context.

This book assesses these two trends quantitatively, giving evidence of the link between vertical specialization and inclusive growth, and then decomposing the inclusive growth effects of vertically specialized trade into six components: GDP growth, export growth, FDI, environment, employment, and innovation. It further explores the differing impact of conventional trade and processing trade on inclusive growth, providing direction for future policy. This second book by the author to consider vertical specialization stresses the importance of integration in driving inclusive growth.

Acidic Proteins of the Nucleus focuses on the functional role of acidic nuclear proteins in differential gene expression. Historically, these proteins are referred to as acidic in nature because they are insoluble in dilute mineral acids and their amino acid composition shows a preponderance of acidic over basic amino acid residues.
After an introduction to DNA-binding proteins and transcriptional control in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems, the subsequent chapters describe various approaches for isolating, separating, and characterizing acidic nuclear proteins. The core chapters specifically cover the isolation, fractionation, and characterization of acidic nuclear phosphoproteins, and the role of these proteins in cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and cell cycle. The last two chapters address the role of acidic nuclear protein in binding steroid hormones and in gene regulation. Each chapter contains some previously unpublished work and provides recommendations for future research.
This book will be a good reference background for researchers of acidic nuclear proteins.

En este trabajo de Tesis doctoral investigamos en profundidad el mecanismo de acción del ácido araquidónico (AA) sobre el canal de potasio BK asociado a la subunidad β1. Demostramos que el AA es capaz de activar al canal BK cuando el mismo se encuentra asociado a β1 y que su mecanismo de acción involucra una estabilización del sensor de voltaje en el estado activado y un aumento en el gating intrínseco del canal, sin modificar su dependencia de la concentración de calcio. Esta activación fue también observada en células de músculo liso vascular de origen humano, donde promovió a la hiperpolarización de la membrana. Finalmente, observamos que el AA tiene un rol vasorrelajante sobre la arteria mesentérica de rata ex vivo, que disminuye cuando los canales BK no son funcionales. El conocimiento del mecanismo molecular del AA sobre el canal BK α+β1, y sus diferencias respecto a lo reportado para el canal α+β2 y α+β3, podría ser útil para la búsqueda de compuestos con efecto selectivo sobre el músculo liso vascular, posicionando a este canal como un blanco terapéutico novedoso en el tratamiento antihipertensivo.
