Cobertura temática

The purpose of this manual is to familiarize industry and students with the technology of asphalt in its several forms namely asphalt cement, cutback asphalt, and asphalt emulsions. The laboratory work is designed to develop an understanding of asphalt properties, characteristics, testing procedures, and specifications.

The procedures outlined are all derived from ASTM designations and practice as recommended by the Asphalt Institute. Where the particular ASTM method permits alternate procedures, the one more applicable to the available equipment and the teaching situation was chosen.

The manual consists of the following:

ò 35 of the frequently used ASTM tests in Asphalt Binder and Mix Design.
ò Sample computations and easy to use data sheets, most of which have been developed specifically for the manual.
ò An up-to-date overview of Asphalt Technology including sources, historical development, and classifications of asphalt products.
ò Easy to understand explanations for Voids Mineral Aggregate, Absorbed Asphalt, Effective Asphalt Content, Percent Air Voids, and Percent of Voids filled with Asphalt.
ò A stand-alone asphalt manual, written specifically for university laboratory instruction, yet applicable for a commercial testing laboratory. Rarely will other reference materials need to be referred to.
ò Dimensions in both the SI and the US Standard systems of measurement.
ò An appendix with conversion factors, rules of safety and procedures, overview of SHRP SUPERPAVE, explanation of asphalt emulsions, and additional data sheets on single-sided pages.

Asphalt is a complex but popular civil engineering material. Design engineers must understand these complexities in order to optimize its use. Whether or not it is used to pave a busy highway, waterproof a rooftop or smooth out an airport runway, Asphalt Materials Science and Technology acquaints engineers with the issues and technologies surrounding the proper selection and uses of asphalts. With this book in hand, researchers and engineering will find a valuable guide to the production, use and environmental aspect of asphalt.
  • Covers the Nomenclature and Terminology for Asphalt including: Performance Graded (PG) Binders, Asphalt Cement (AC), Asphalt-Rubber (A-R) Binder, Asphalt Emulsion and Cutback Asphalt
  • Includes Material Selection Considerations, Testing, and applications
  • Biodegradation of Asphalt and environmental aspects of asphalt use

Cobertura temática

Assessment of Immune Status by the Leukocyte Adherence Inhibition Test reviews many aspects of the immune response and cellular requirements in leukocyte adherence inhibition (LAI). It compares the LAI methodology with alternative approaches, discusses the method that has been adopted to determine whether the LAI phenomenon measures a specific immune response, and explores how these phenomena fit in with and relate to the traditional immune response.
Organized into three parts encompassing 15 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the hemocytometer assay, the immunological basis and applications of hemocytometer LAI, the immune response as assayed by the test tube method, and the microplate assay. It then discusses cellular populations in LAI; measurements of humoral antitumor immunity; clinical application of LAI in breast cancer, prostate cancer, and rheumatic diseases; the biology of LAI and its response to human cancer; and cellular and pharmacologic aspects of LAI. It also compares microplate LAI with other in vitro assays of cell-mediated immunity, as well as tumor immunity in animal models and human cancer.
Both beginning and experienced investigators involved in all aspects of immunologic research will find this book extremely useful.
