A Wide Gap Second Derivative NIR Spectroscopic Method for Measuring Tissue Hemoglobin Oxygen Saturation
Dean E. Myers; Chris E. Cooper; Greg J. Beilman; John D. Mowlem; LeAnn D. Anderson; Roxanne P. Seifert; Joseph P. Ortner
We describe a four wavelength continuous wave near-infrared algorithm for estimating hemoglobin oxygen saturation in tissue using single depth attenuation measurements. The 40 nm gap second derivative algorithm and in vitro calibration method provided StO_2 measurements of reasonable accuracy that were applied across a variety of tissues and probe spacings with no measured or assumed values for optical pathlength or optical scattering.

Do Slow and Small Oxygen Changes Affect the Cerebral Cytochrome Oxidase Redox State Measured by Near-Infrared Spectroscopy?
Martin Wolf; Matthias Keel; Vera Dietz; Kurt von Siebenthal; Hans-Ulrich Bucher; Oskar Baenziger
Changes in concentrations of O_2Hb, HHb and tHb, induced by small and slow O_2 changes, measured by NIRS over the neonatal brain, are inversely correlated to the measured changes in the oxidation state of CytO_2. For small O_2 changes the methodology CytO_2 measurement needs to be improved.
Palabras clave: Cytochrome Oxidase; Arterial Oxygen Saturation; Neonatal Brain; Redox Change; Oxygen Change.
- Novel NIRS Applications (2) | Pp. 245-250
NIRS Measurement of Venous Oxygen Saturation in the Adult Human Head
Derek W. Brown; Daniel Haensse; Andrea Bauschatz; Martin Wolf
Provided that both the breathing frequency remains constant and that the temporal resolution of the instrument is sufficiently high, NIRS spiroximetry enables measurement of cerebral SvO_2 in healthy human adults. Furthermore, simultaneous measurements of StO_2, SaO_2, and SvO_2 enable calculation of both OEF and the compartmental distribution of cerebral blood volume.
Palabras clave: Cerebral Blood Volume; Near Infrared Spectroscopy; Breathing Frequency; Jugular Bulb; Oxygen Extraction Fraction.
- Novel NIRS Applications (2) | Pp. 251-256
