User Adaptation in E-Learning Environments
Paraskevi Tzouveli; Stefanos Kollias
In this paper we present a distance-learning scheme that performs dynamic user evaluation in order to allow training of users adaptable to their needs. The appropriate learner profile is selected on-line, influencing the level and the contents of the offered courses while behavioral evaluation affects the pace of training and the way information is presented to the user. Learner profiles are created and continuously updated through an e-survey tool that is integrated into the system. In its current form the presented system aims at increasing the familiarity with ICT of teachers working in the Special Education sector.

Mirto: A New Approach for Call Systems
Georges Antoniadis; Sandra Echinard; Olivier Kraif; Thomas Lebarbé; Mathieu Loiseau; Claude Ponton
The MIRTO project aims at designing a pedagogical plateform using Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies, meant to be used by language teachers. More than an element of quality, the NLP is prerequisite, as our own, for the language learning softwares to be able to teach language as such. MIRTO tries to work out this approach, while offering an NLP based authoring system to create pedagogical objects, such as activities and scenarios.

Using Learning Theories for Education on the Web
Evandro Cantú; Jean Marie Farines; José André Angotti
The objective of this paper is to present a Web application, constructed in order to help and guide teachers and learners of computer networks. This application defines a context for teaching and learning which is based on a methodological approach stemmed from some modern educational theories. Concept maps, a graphical representation of the relationships among concepts, are used to model and organize the knowledge of the application domain, in our case, computer networks. This application offers a very concise form to present the concepts and principles to be taught or learned and consequently to organize the educational process. Guidelines for using this application and its associated environment are also presented.

A Look at the Learning Process in Remote Laboratory
Patricia Cappelaere; Allal Saadane
The aim of this paper is to present several steps of the methodology that have been defined to analyse a learning situation of tele-experimentation at ICAM (High School of Mechanical Engineering). According to the pre-defined objectives, we establish a framework based upon Activity Theory that will lead us to the definition of indicators i.e. granular key-elements and thus to the effective elaboration of questionnaires and observation grids.

Ambient Learning
Bernhard Kölmel; Sébastien Kicin
AMBIENT LEARNING is a new market validation project exploring the applications and hardware needed in creating networked context aware environments for ambient services and testing them in the eLearning area.

The Eudoxos project aims at using the possibilities the Internet offers in order to transform the classroom into a research laboratory. The project studies the applicability of the emerging technology in the school sector and provides a platform that allows the students to use the Robotic Telescopes of the Eudoxos National Observatory for Education and Research in the framework of their school curriculum. The robotic telescopes are installed in the Eudoxos National Observatory for Education and Research on the Ainos mountain of Kefallonia Island (Ionian Sea), Greece, performing night sky as well as solar observations.

Using Multimedia in E-Learning, a New Role for Teachers?
Everardo Reyes García; Imad Saleh
This document presents a general overview of a new role proposed for teachers who are in contact with the information and communication technologies for distance courses content creation: the teacher-developer role. To acquire this profile, we are developing at the Laboratoire Paragraphe (Universit_Paris 8, France) and the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Toluca (Mexico) a software tool called HyperTectol that introduces guides and promote in the faculty the use of multimedia elements for the Learning Objects design and creation.

A Connectionist Approach for Adaptive Lesson
Hassina Seridi-Bouchelaghem; Toufik Sari; Mokthar Sellami
This paper investigates the use of computational intelligence for adaptive lesson generation in a distance learning environment. A method for adaptive pedagogical hypermedia document generation is proposed and implemented in a prototype called . This method is based on specialized connectionist architecture. The domain model is represented in a connectionist-based system which provides an optimal didactic plan composed of a set of basic units. The generated didactic plan is adapted to the learner’s goals, abilities and preferences.
