The Platinum Abundance of ι CrB A

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>The analysis of six high resolution SOPHIE spectra obtained over three consecutive nights in 2007 March reveals the presence of a strong Pt <jats:sc>ii</jats:sc> line at 4514.14 Å. Over the spectral range 4400 up to 4600 Å, the lines do not vary either in reduced intensity nor in radial velocity. Spectrum synthesis of this spectral range using updated atomic data yields abundances for helium (0.10 solar), magnesium (2 solar), titanium (2.20 solar), chromium (2.20 solar), manganese (28 solar), iron (1.2 solar), zirconium (80 solar), barium (15 solar) and platinum (2500 solar), which confirm the HgMn status for this star.</jats:p>

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>We present a data set containing the light curves of all stars brighter than 16th magnitude in the TESS full frame images from the primary mission (Years 1 and 2; Sectors 1–26). This includes a total of over 150 million light curves, making it the largest set of TESS light curves released to date.</jats:p>

How Have Astronomers Cited Other Fields in the Last Decade?

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>We present a citation pattern analysis between astronomical papers and 13 other disciplines, based on the <jats:monospace>arXiv</jats:monospace> database over the past decade (2010–2020). We analyze 12,600 astronomical papers citing over 14,531 unique publications outside astronomy. Two striking patterns are unraveled. First, general relativity recently became the most cited field by astronomers, a trend highly correlated with the discovery of gravitational waves. Second, the fast growth of referenced papers in computer science and statistics, the first with a notable 15 fold increase since 2015. Such findings confirm the critical role of interdisciplinary efforts involving astronomy, statistics, and computer science in recent astronomical research.</jats:p>

LTD064402+245919, Compact Binary or Subgiant with Red Star Eclipsing Binary?

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Recently, a single-line spectroscopic binary, LTD064402+245919, has been discovered by Yang et al. Using data from LAMOST and ZTF, the unseen companion is estimated to have a mass of 1–3 <jats:italic>M</jats:italic> <jats:sub>⊙</jats:sub>, orbiting a subgiant with orbital period of 14.50 days, making it a good compact binary candidate without X-ray emission. However, new light curves from ZTF and ASAS-SN, has shown the depth of one dip increases toward a bluer wavelength, indicating LTD064402+245919 is more likely to be a subgaint with a red star. Using both Wilson–Devinney code and Phoebe, the derived <jats:italic>T</jats:italic> <jats:sub>eff</jats:sub> of secondary is about 3400 K, corresponding to a red M2/3 star. Additionally, the 20% error of parallax from Gaia is large. The mass of subgiant will be 1.28 <jats:italic>M</jats:italic> <jats:sub>⊙</jats:sub> instead of 2.77 <jats:italic>M</jats:italic> <jats:sub>⊙</jats:sub>, if the refined distance of 5.0 kpc is used. Nevertheless, new multi-color photometry are warranted for the final confirmation of binaries properties.</jats:p>

Unlikely gamma-ray bursts, the giant flare of magnetars are not assumed to be strongly beamed. This will change the estimation on the magnetar’s magnetic field and age (about several hours).</jats:p>

A Resolved Search for AGN in the Centers of Nearby Galaxies with WISE

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>We investigate the mid-infrared detection of active galactic nucleus (AGN) in nearby galaxies and the effects of contamination by starlight and dust emission from the host galaxy. We used a sample of ∼14,000 nearby galaxies from the <jats:italic>z</jats:italic> = 0 Multiwavelength Galaxy Synthesis to study the effect of isolating the galaxy center on AGN detection. We identify 39 known AGN and 9 additional previously selected AGN candidates using color selection in WISE Bands 1 and 2. Most AGN identified using the smallest apertures around the nucleus are lost from the WISE color selection at larger aperture radii. This suggests that when low spatial resolution or integrated galaxy measurements are used to identify AGN in the mid-IR, lower luminosity AGN may go undetected due to contamination from the galaxy’s dust emission and starlight.</jats:p>

Probing X-Ray Continua with Accretion-Disk Wind in Black Hole X-Ray Binaries

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>High energy coronal radiation in Black Hole X-Ray Binary sources is often absorbed by accretion disk winds and the resulting absorption signatures heavily depend on its ionizing spectral energy distribution (SED). Considering multiple ion absorbers in the wind (e.g. Fe <jats:sc>xxv</jats:sc>/<jats:sc>xxvi</jats:sc>, S <jats:sc>xvi</jats:sc>, Si <jats:sc>xiv</jats:sc>, Ca <jats:sc>xx</jats:sc> and Mg <jats:sc>xii</jats:sc>), we find that the relative strength of absorption among these ions in general sensitively depends on the shape of the SED. We calculate a series of absorption line spectra from radiative transfer process for 9 distinct SED. Furthermore, we simulate 50 ks XRISM/Resolve spectra for each SED. We then fit the spectra by two-parameter wind model (SED and wind density normalization) to examine whether or not absorption features imprinted by the wind can be uniquely mapped to the ionizing SED.</jats:p>

The Behavior of HgMn Stars in the Far UV -5: υ Her

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>The analysis of twelve high resolution SWP spectra of the HgMn star HD 144206 (<jats:italic>υ</jats:italic> Her) obtained through the large aperture recorded by the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) reveals that the far ultraviolet flux of this star remained constant over the various observations with IUE, except for one spectrum. The increase of FUV flux in SWP 13513 and the simultaneous brightening of <jats:italic>υ</jats:italic> Her in the <jats:italic>V</jats:italic> band could reflect a flare similar to those reported in other late B-type stars. The analysis of two high resolution ELODIE spectra obtained four years apart does not show any variations of the lines, either in reduced intensity nor in radial velocity. The absence of far ultraviolet variability and the reproducibility of the brightness in the <jats:italic>V</jats:italic> band during most IUE observations do not support the presence of large chemical gradients over the surface of <jats:italic>υ</jats:italic> Her.</jats:p>

Quantum Tunneling of Fuzzy Dark Matter out of Satellite Galaxies

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>I show that the tidal gravitational potential of the Milky Way galaxy removes fuzzy dark matter from its satellite dwarf galaxies through quantum-mechanical tunneling. The existence of dark matter in satellites rules-out ultra-light axions as dark matter with a particle mass, <jats:italic>m</jats:italic> <jats:sub> <jats:italic>a</jats:italic> </jats:sub> < 2 × 10<jats:sup>−21</jats:sup> eV. This limit exceeds the canonical mass range proposed as a solution to the small-scale challenges of the cold-dark-matter paradigm.</jats:p>
