This thesis proposes new methods for estimating the particle size distribution (PSD) of polymeric latex that involve spherical particles with both homogeneous and non-homogeneous core-shell morphology, based on light scattering measurements. In particular, it is presented a new method for estimating PSDs in latex of homogeneous particles on the basis of multiangle dynamic light scattering (MDLS), from which improved estimates can be obtained when compared to classical estimation methods. In the case of latex with core-shell particles, a novel estimation method is proposed for acceptable estimating the bivariate size distribution (i.e., core and particle size distribution) on the basis of light scattering measurements. Also, two alternative methods for estimating PSDs of latex with unknown composition based on elastic light scattering and MDLS are evaluated. Finally, an analysis of the capillary hidrodynamic fractionation (CHDF) technique with turbidity detection is carry out. A study on the uncertainties of: i) the calibration curve: particle diameter vs elution time; and ii) the refractive index of the particles, is performed. Aditionally, a method to quantify and correct the instrumental broadening in CHDF is proposed, that is able to improve the obtained estimates.
