HEREDITAS was founded in 1920 and has been published uninterrupted since. As of 2005, the character of Hereditas changed, from a traditional subscription based journal, to become an open access, web based and author funded journal.Hereditas publishes original research and reviews from all sections of the genetics discipline and welcomes theoretical as well as empirical work
Open access implies that everything published in Hereditas is immediately available for downloading and read for anyone with access to the internet, at no costs. The copyright stays with the author. Open access will increase the number of readers and make the published results more widely spread.
