PAJ is widely admired for its thoughtful essays and in-depth interviews with major international figures in the arts. For three decades, it has offered extended coverage of contemporary art practices and new critical modes of thinking about performance in broad cultural contexts. In charting the directions of performance, video, installations, dance, photography, media, film, and music, PAJ brings together theatre and the visual arts for a challenging cross-media perspective. The issues feature artists' writings, critical commentary, interviews and dialogues, roundtable discussions, historical documents, book reviews, performance texts and plays.
