Host Response to Biomaterials: The Impact of Host Response on Biomaterial Selection explains the various categories of biomaterials and their significance for clinical applications, focusing on the host response to each biomaterial. It is one of the first books to connect immunology and biomaterials with regard to host response.

The text also explores the role of the immune system in host response, and covers the regulatory environment for biomaterials, along with the benefits of synthetic versus natural biomaterials, and the transition from simple to complex biomaterial solutions.

Fields covered include, but are not limited to, orthopaedic surgery, dentistry, general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, and regenerative medicine.

Various topics related to Hot Isostatic Pressing are presented in this volume. As well as papers on more general aspects of HIPing, the papers are organised into four groups: metals and alloys, ceramics, HIP-engineering, and HIP-fundamentals. Castings, powder metallurgy, intermetallics, surface engineering and diffusion bounding are covered in the first group. The papers on ceramics give special attention to HIPing of structural and functional ceramics as well as to ceramic composites. Some interesting HIP-engineering innovations are presented on HIP equipment and HIP-technology. The papers which discuss HIP-fundamentals focus around materials modelling and component modelling.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing of Steel Structures contains practical information that is useful for both researchers in hot-dip galvanizing and engineers, designers, and inspectors. The book draws from the empirical experience and research of the authors, complementing the current state of knowledge of morphological variations of the coating and causes of coating delamination.

The book includes chapters devoted to qualitative tests of the coating, and to methods of making corrections. A section describing the principle of protecting steel against corrosion through zinc coating is also provided, along with an extensive chapter on the principles of good design for hot-dip galvanizing. The chapter related to the safety of hot-dip galvanized steel structures offers a new hypothesis about the mechanism of nucleation of LMAC cracks during hot-dip galvanizing, thus enriching the knowledge regarding this phenomenon.

  • Provides practical information on hot-dip galvanizing from a scientific-disciplinary perspective, including coverage of design principles, reliability of galvanized structures, and legal aspects
  • Features chapters devoted to qualitative assessments of the surface treatment and methods for correcting problems
  • Includes discussion of hot-dip galvanizing with regard to environmental aspects and sustainable development

Have you ever looked at your Library’s key performance indicators and said to yourself "so what!"? Have you found yourself making decisions in a void due to the lack of useful and easily accessible operational data? Have you ever worried that you are being left behind with the emergence of data analytics? Do you feel there are important stories in your operational data that need to be told, but you have no idea how to find these stories? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this book is for you. How Libraries Should Manage Data provides detailed instructions on how to transform your operational data from a fog of disconnected, unreliable, and inaccessible information - into an exemplar of best practice data management. Like the human brain, most people are only using a very small fraction of the true potential of Excel. Learn how to tap into a greater proportion of Excel’s hidden power, and in the process transform your operational data into actionable business intelligence.

  • Recognize and overcome the social barriers to creating useful operational data
  • Understand the potential value and pitfalls of operational data
  • Learn how to structure your data to obtain useful information quickly and easily
  • Create your own desktop library cube with step-by-step instructions, including DAX formulas

How to Attack and Defend Your Website is a concise introduction to web security that includes hands-on web hacking tutorials. The book has three primary objectives: to help readers develop a deep understanding of what is happening behind the scenes in a web application, with a focus on the HTTP protocol and other underlying web technologies; to teach readers how to use the industry standard in free web application vulnerability discovery and exploitation tools – most notably Burp Suite, a fully featured web application testing tool; and finally, to gain knowledge of finding and exploiting the most common web security vulnerabilities.

This book is for information security professionals and those looking to learn general penetration testing methodology and how to use the various phases of penetration testing to identify and exploit common web protocols.

How to Attack and Defend Your Website is be the first book to combine the methodology behind using penetration testing tools such as Burp Suite and Damn Vulnerable Web Application (DVWA), with practical exercises that show readers how to (and therefore, how to prevent) pwning with SQLMap and using stored XSS to deface web pages.

  • Learn the basics of penetration testing so that you can test your own website's integrity and security
  • Discover useful tools such as Burp Suite, DVWA, and SQLMap
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how your website works and how best to protect it

How to Build a Digital Library reviews knowledge and tools to construct and maintain a digital library, regardless of the size or purpose. A resource for individuals, agencies, and institutions wishing to put this powerful tool to work in their burgeoning information treasuries.

The Second Edition reflects developments in the field as well as in the Greenstone Digital Library open source software. In Part I, the authors have added an entire new chapter on user groups, user support, collaborative browsing, user contributions, and so on. There is also new material on content-based queries, map-based queries, cross-media queries. There is an increased emphasis placed on multimedia by adding a "digitizing" section to each major media type. A new chapter has also been added on "internationalization,"  which will address Unicode standards, multi-language interfaces and collections, and issues with non-European languages (Chinese, Hindi, etc.).

Part II, the software tools section, has been completely rewritten to reflect the new developments in Greenstone Digital Library Software, an internationally popular open source software tool with a comprehensive graphical facility for creating and maintaining digital libraries.

  • Outlines the history of libraries on both traditional and digital
  • Written for both technical and non-technical audiences and covers the entire spectrum of media, including text, images, audio, video, and related XML standards
  • Web-enhanced with software documentation, color illustrations, full-text index, source code, and more
