En los estudios de la región de Puna Jujeña, existe escasa información sobre la funcionalidad económica del sector campesino y valoración de la diversidad, que permitan reflexionar sobre la orientación en el desarrollo de la región. El objetivo es establecer lógicas productivas de las explotaciones, poniendo énfasis en los procesos de mercantilización-no mercantilización y su relación con las políticas de promoción de desarrollo. Se emplea como metodología el estudio de casos, con diseño mixto, transversal y no experimental. Utilizando como fuente de información el trabajo de Paz et al. (2011), que construye una tipología de explotaciones, de los seis grupos establecidos se seleccionan dos estudios de caso. Las explotaciones estudiadas fueron sujeto de diferentes grados de intensificación de las relaciones mercantiles con su entorno, con consecuentes cambios en las formas y lógicas productivas: relación producción - reproducción, aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales, productos y función de los mismos, participación del trueque – venta, e incorporación de los ingresos. Cada unidad se vincula, externaliza y en cierto grado depende de los mercados, pero no dejan de ser explotaciones campesinas; dado que se desarrollan en un ámbito campesino y despliegan estrategias propias de esta tipo. Se vinculan con los mercados empleando un alto grado de informalidad y valiéndose del entramado social, para apropiarse de cadenas de valor cortas. Se concluye sobre los efectos de las relaciones mercantiles en los dos tipos de explotaciones estudiadas, al rol del Estado en los procesos de mercantilización y de tipo metodológico sobre proceso de investigación desarrollado
