The publication of the extensive seven-volume work Comprehensive Molecular Insect Science provided a complete reference encompassing important developments and achievements in modern insect science. Insect Pathology is designed for a broad spectrum of readers. This book was originally intended to update the 1949 test by E. A. Steinhaus entitled Principles of Insect Pathology. The purpose for this book was twofold: To serve (1) as a text for an insect pathology and/or biological control class and (2) as a comprehensive reference source. Because this book summarizes much of the available information, its usefulness as a textbook for an insect pathology class is apparent. Although the literature citations are extensive, they are far from complete. The literature in insect pathology is voluminous and for the past decade has been expanding at an almost exponential rate. A complete review of the literature is beyond the scope of the book, and an omission of a reference does not preclude its importance. Our citations, however, should serve as a good starting point for those who wish to obtain further information. We have attempted to cover equally all subdisciplines, but shortcomings are unavoidable. For these, we take full responsibility.

Insect Pathology: An Advanced Treatise, Volume 1 reviews some of the principal developments in insect pathology as well as the major research trends in the field. This book is concerned with non-infectious diseases, microbiota of healthy insects, immunity, physiopathology, predisposition to disease, virus diseases, and rickettsial diseases.
Organized into 17 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the nature and scope of insect pathology as a distinct branch of entomology, as well as the challenges involved in the study of insect diseases and some of the principal applications of insect pathology in agriculture, medicine, and general biology. The next chapters introduce the reader to the physical factors that cause injury/harm to insects; the pathological changes induced in insects by chemicals used as insecticides; and insect nutrition and nutritional diseases. The book discusses other diseases in insects, including genetic diseases, tumors, granuloses, rickettsiae, and rickettsioses.

La tesis aborda una problemática generalizada de la educación superior: la inserción laboral de sus graduados y focaliza la investigación en dos carreras afines - la Ingeniería Comercial y la Administración de Empresas – que se dictan en la provincia de Pichincha, considerando que la oferta académica de esa región es significativa respecto de la general del Ecuador. El propósito de la investigación queda expresado en el objetivo general: Identificar los factores que inciden en la inserción laboral de los graduados de la carrera de Ingeniería Comercial/Administración de Empresas de las Universidades categoría “A Y B” de la Provincia de Pichincha Ecuador. Para abordar el objetivo se analiza la situación actual de la inserción de los graduados, las limitaciones que estos han encontrado para su inserción laboral, las políticas de selección de personal de las empresas para determinar los perfiles y competencias requeridas y, finalmente, la opinión de los Directores de las carreras sobre las acciones que las universidades encaran para facilitar la inserción de sus graduados. El carácter de la investigación es de tipo exploratorio descriptivo y utiliza como instrumentos de recolección de información las encuestas a graduados y las entrevistas estructuradas a funcionarios de empresas y Directores de Carrera. El aporte del trabajo, además de señalar las limitaciones en materia de inserción laboral de las carreras de Ingeniería Comercial y Administración de Empresas, se concreta en la propuesta de una serie de lineamientos a implementar en las Universidades para asegurar la empleabilidad y la inserción laboral de los egresados de las carreras analizadas.
