The water stress indexes (EH) of the vegetation have been extensively used to assist the farmers to optimize their production. Moran et al., (1994) defined EH in terms of the latent heat flux as EH=1-(ET/Epot), where Epot is the potential evapotranspiration and ET/Epot is the evaporative ratio. It is important to specify the definition of Epot in those models derived from the relative evaporation since it is ambiguous given the various definitions available in the literature (Randall et al., 2010). Granger (1989) had exhaustively analyzed the most common published Epot concept. A very potential definition would involve a dry atmosphere, maximum available energy and a saturated surface. Conversely, the wet environment evapotranspiration (Ew), which is also associated to a saturated surface, is only drove by the available energy. In this work, the effect of Ew and Epot on EH are analyzed. Here, two EH index are defined based on Moran et al., (1949) definition of EH (=1-ET/Epot). One of them, is obtained changing Epot by Ew concept, thus a new definition of EH is formulated. The other index, estimates ET/Epot from Venturini et al., (2008) relative evaporation parameter (F) which renders EH=1-F. Thus a new EH index that depends on the atmospheric and surface condition is obtained. In this work a new methodology to compute F from the short infrared reflectance (SWIR) is proposed.Palabras clave – provistas por el repositorio digital
