Probiotics represent one of the alternatives in swine production to reduce overuse of antibiotics and the presence of bacterial pathogens and xenobiotic veterinary products in food. The objective of this study was to select a microbial inoculum with probiotic capabilities by testing in vitro, consisting of indigenous bacteria of the intestinal microbiota of pigs, to improve the health and growth performance during their intensive farming. The organisms were isolated, identified and selected through different tests: aggregation, co-aggregation, production of inhibitory substances, growth in bile and low pH and growth evaluation in optimal conditions. A total of 13 lactobacilli were identified belonging to the species L. jonhsonii, L. reuteri, L. agilis, L. salivarius, L. ruminis y L. fermentum. The lactic acid bacteria (LAB) showed differences in their behavior during testing, both between species and between strains of the same species. Microorganisms L. reuteri 002C DSPV, L. agilis 009C and L. ruminis DSPV DSPV 006C showed the best performance on tests. It would justify being incorporated in a multi-strain probiotic inoculum and evaluated in vivo assay.Palabras clave – provistas por el repositorio digital
