Resumen/Descripción – provisto por el repositorio digital
In this work, studies of nanostructured porous silicon thin films single layers and complex multilayers (photonic crystals) are presented, aimed to applications in the field of chemical and biochemical sensors, taking advantage on the optical and structural properties of this material. In order to obtain appropriate porous silicon thin films different fabrication techniques were examined. Based on the fitting of optical reflectance and transmittance spectra with optical transference matrices and effective media theories, different characterization methods for the fabricated layers were developed. The comparison between the results of the fitting procedure and Scanning Electron Microscopy images indicates that the adopted method is adequate to study the prepared films. Photonic sensors with porous silicon multilayers were fabricated to optimize the sensing system optical response, giving to the device one of the most important properties required by a sensor: sensitivity. Other relevant advantage of the devices designed was the short response time which allows measurements that could be taken in a matter of milliseconds. In the optofluidic field, an optical technique to interpret the filling dynamics of different liquids inside porous silicon layers is presented. This method has the flexibility to works as nanofluidic sensor, and also the capability to characterize the porous matrix morphology as well. Finally, using Factor Analysis, a study on the stabilization of nanostructured porous silicon thin films through the analysis of the oxidation kinetics is presented. From the evolution of FTIR spectra in time, information about the dominant microscopic structures of the material was obtained.
