Great Teachers for STEM

<jats:p> Many countries are striving to develop the human resources required to advance science and technology. Success requires a system of education that prepares young people for life in today's complex societies. The Obama administration has recently stressed the need to strengthen science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the United States. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan clearly understands that the quality of STEM teaching is of singular importance to the success of students, requiring “great teachers, who know the content.” <jats:xref ref-type="fn">*</jats:xref> Herein lies a major challenge: How to develop and cultivate great STEM teachers? </jats:p>
