Surgical Management of Spasticity

Herta Yu; Mary Szatkowski

Spasticity is a disorder of motor function that is characterized by tight or spastic muscle activity. The anatomy and pathophysiology of spasticity is not fully understood. Spasticity occurs as a result of any damage or lesion within the central nervous system (CNS) that impairs the mediation of inhibitory inputs down the descending motor pathways and impedes relaxation [12, 13, 25].

Infections of the Central Nervous System

George Marcus Galvan

Intracranial suppurative (pus forming) processes can be divided into three categories based on the distinct anatomical areas in which the infection occurs. These areas, from superficial to deep, are the epidural space, subdural space, and parenchyma tissue. This section will focus on these processes and their relationships to one another.
